I don't describe my characters.
THESIS: Detailed character descriptions only make your writing less accessible and eventually split your fanbase.
All of my characters are literal self-inserts, but I can't let my reader know that. I also need the reader to be able to project themselves onto any particular character too, because people like different things. And you never know who they'll cast for the adaptation these days!
Ergo, all of my characters are defined only by hair and eye color. That way, anyone can "become" any character with just a wig/hair dye and colored contacts, or even EVERY character. (I usually picture them all as variants of myself, for the spice.)
The real slam-dunk was when an alpha reader asked me if I had any non-white characters. "Actually," I replied, "I haven't defined anyone's skin tone. Maybe you're just racist?"
