Why is everyone in the Nepali farming sector so obsessed with foreign (bideshi) breeds, both in livestock and crops? Farmers are increasingly abandoning native species in favor of hybrids, hoping for better results.

However, superior production depends largely on how these animals and plants are raised. When it comes to local goats, cows, or poultry, there is a lack of proper care. Local breeds are often left to graze during the day and are simply tied up at night with no further attention. The same neglect applies to local rice varieties and other crops.

In contrast, when farmers switch to hybrids, they recognize that these breeds require "special care." They provide four to five times more nutrition, maintain cleaner farms, and follow strict hygiene protocols.

Our local breeds are already genetically adapted to our environment. If we gave them even a fraction of the care we give hybrids, their productivity would improve significantly. We see this same logic in humans: the current generation (Gen Z) often has a better physical build and height than previous generations, not because their genes changed, but because their nutrition and care improved.

Using hybrids is like trying to fix the Nepali gene with foreign DNA, when the real solution might just be better investment in what we already have.
