Hi everyone,
Before I get roasted 😅 I’m genuinely looking for advice so I can set realistic expectations and plan properly.
I recently moved to Germany with my wife (she’s German) and our three kids to be closer to her family. I have 10+ years of experience as a Digital Project/Program Manager, working across Dubai and Kuala Lumpur in telecom, banking, and tourism.
From what I’m seeing, German language skills are the main barrier. I’m currently at A2 level and actively improving, but I also don’t want to rely only on English-speaking roles. At the same time, many job postings seem to require C1 German.
I believe I can realistically reach C1 within a year, but here’s my challenge: we have savings to support us for about a year, but I don’t want to spend that whole time out of work or burn through savings without making progress.
So I’m trying to figure out the best approach:
- Should I focus on improving my German first before applying seriously?
- Or is it realistic to land an English-speaking role in my field while continuing to learn?
If anyone has been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate your advice especially around industries, companies, or strategies that worked for you.
PS: If someone have role please feel to reach out.
Thanks a lot 🙏
