Unifi Talk with minimal fees?

Hi All -

Trying to minimize cost for a personal Unifi Talk system with minimal external use. Here's what I'm thinking:

Location A

  • UDR7 seems to be the lowest cost gateway that can handle Talk and has Wi-Fi built-in.
    • Unifi Talk application
    • Teleport VPN host
  • Unifi G2 Touch deskphone connected over Wi-Fi with POE adapter (AC power only)

Location B

  • Unifi G2 Touch deskphone connected over Wi-Fi with POE adapter (the phone is configured with Unifi Teleport VPN client connected to the UDR7 in Location A). No changes to firewall at this location.

Mobile Users

  • 3-5 users
  • iOS or Android using Unifi Endpoint app with Teleport VPN configuration.

Questions

  1. Is UDR7 the most cost-effective option to host Talk with Wi-Fi in a 1BR apartment?
  2. Does the UDR7 need to use DDNS for Talk to work outside the network if I'm planning to use Teleport VPN?
  3. Do any ports need to be open for Teleport VPN or the Mobile Users using Teleport VPN?
  4. I believe Unifi Talk Pro license is needed for softphone use. Is a license needed for every user that needs to use a softphone?
  5. There's mention of subscription locked and unlocked phones in Unifi documentation but if you go to the Unifi Store, there's no option to choose a version for the G2 Touch? I assume I need to use a unlocked G2 Touch if I want to use it without a subscription.
  6. For external calls, it looks like VOIP.MS might be the cheapest option? Anyone have any experience using them? https://wiki.voip.ms/article/Ubiquiti_Unifi_Talk
  7. For the mobile users running the Unifi Endpoint app, does the app create a VPN profile on the mobile devices and tunnels all traffic from your mobile device to the UDR7? or does it just create a tunnel for the Unified Endpoint app and you can run WireGuard or Tailscale VPN on the phone simultaneously?

Thanks in advance -

Does anyone use a Gen 8 TZ firewall with redundant power adapters? Are there any issues?

I assume you just buy a 2nd power adapter and plug it in to another UPS/circuit so both are running at the same time from different power sources. Are you able to check AC adapter status in the UI?

Thanks

Howdy - I'm unhappy with my Eufy setup that totals almost 30 devices (doorbells, outdoor solar, outdoor battery, PTZ indoor, 2K indoor fixed, motion sensors, leak sensors). I can't switch everything at once but maybe start with the exterior stuff first. My biggest pain points:

  • Eufy motion alerts miss things
  • Eufy home base 2 has reset itself and vanished from my Eufy app along with all devices connected to it (~ around 10 cameras and sensors)
  • Eufy app errors out frequently
  • Eufy app options/settings seem less customizable than Tapo
  • Eufy video playback is painfully slow to find footage and export

I'm looking at the following Tapo devices:

Outdoor

  • D210 battery doorbell
  • C460 w/ Solar Kit

Indoor

  • C110 or C120 indoor 2K cameras

Sensors

  • H100 hub
  • T100 motion sensor
  • T110 contact sensor
  • T300 leak sensor

Given the pain points with Eufy mentioned, is Tapo going to work better than Eufy? Anyone coming from Eufy to Tapo that can compare the two with firsthand experience?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what the purpose is of the WOW post game surveys on player game satisfaction? Like it’s just only one general question - what can they derive from it?
