So many detergents' marketing are literally a scam
I'm a doctor. Japanese detergents are a big thing where I live. Absolutely everything is scented. Recently Kao attack has come out with a new "anti-mite formula" that they have plastered promos for all over the city from subway stations to youtube ads, saying their detergent is perfect for those with skin or nasal allergies to dust mites. Their active ingredient is "MDJ". I got curious as to what this was. Looked it up. It's a synthetic jasmine scent. It does barely anything to deter mites, while also being so strong it's an irritant.
I get so many eczema patients or allergic rhinitis patients in my clinic who have flare up after flare up and it turns out to be because even products marketed towards helping them control their allergic triggers actually have so much scent added to the detergent it makes their chronic conditions flare up worse. Unscented detergents here that actually do something aside from being water softeners are all American imports. I wish the focus on household products here wasn't so skewed towards fragrance. I end up having to have discussions with my eczema and rhinitis patients about possibly spending twice what they usually spend on local detergents to get an imported one.
