I started this journey via OVR program through careerlink after being on worked comp for almost 3 years and having multiple surgeries in that time span finding a job with that gap was easier said then done. So I had zero knowledge zero experience on the CDL process and how schools are structured etc I thought all schools were good schools and that they had some governmental oversight to make sure they were adequately staff and offering the proper training seeing as it’s not free usually I do my research but after having my caseworker for OVR recommend a specific school I thought word this is great. Started at the school and if I had to rate it from 1-10 I’d say at the beginning a solid 5 and gradually since then it is now a solid 3. Anyhow I’ve failed the skills test offset portion twice so far first time my fault second time the instructors but whatever I’ll take it now I have one attempt left for skills test before I’d need a new learners permit. So this post aside from venting is mainly about tips, tricks advice seeing as my CDL school does not offer adequate or proper training there’s too many students only 2-3 instructors and not even enough trucks they literally have 2 manual and 2 automatic and every Monday start a new class smh I am very good in the vehicle but most of this process was self taught just repetition it’s never been hands on training AT ALL I’ve learned by doing and learned from other students all I need is some one on one training just to figure out what I’m doing wrong or what I can do better when performing the offset portion of skills test idk if there’s a way I can pay someone out of pocket for some one on one training idk aide from watching YouTube videos which so many people have there own ways of doing the same thing so I don’t wanna have to get a new learners permit IF I can just pass I’ve good on the road already did hours of that even the pre trip pass on first try straight lines forward or backward I’m literally food with ALL of that but for some reason I can never continuously successfully perform the offset skills portion like I get it right twice mess up the next four times get it right once not get it right again etc mind you all this 85% I’ve taught myself from just doing that 15% is the only time a instructor actually worked with me and that was at the beginning just showing me how the maneuver looked PLEASE HELP any advice, information, tips, tricks, guides are all welcomed. Sorry in advance for this rant it’s just been a very frustrating process and unlike class c where you can pay hourly for driving classes you can’t at least to my knowledge with class c I’ve even thought of trying to get in with a company that hires driver trainees since I have a learners permit I have all of my required hours I have 7-8 hours of road time etc. just to get the CDL but idk. Either ways thanks in advance
