As a European player, I’ve noticed a big disconnect in how we categorize skill levels compared to what I see on this sub.

Over here, a 54 handicap is a very standard starting point and many clubs require a "license" just to get on the course. In my head, the brackets follow the actual WHS scale:

High: 54 –> 36 (The learning phase)

Mid: 35 –> 20 (The "I play regularly" phase)

Low: 19 –> 0 (The "I'm a stick" phase)

However, on r/golf, I see 22-handicappers calling themselves "High."

To me, a 22 is a solid golfer who knows their way around a course.

Is this just because the US doesn't really "recognize" the 36–54 range, or is the skill gap between a 15 and a 25 really seen as the difference between "Mid" and "High"?
