I don’t really know what to do. She’s my third ever cat. My first cat did this too, but he was socially more sensitive and didn’t love me hissing when he did things, so he stopped. My second came to me already 15 years old and chill. This one…she’s a maniac. She used to be worse, but she’s kinda calmed as she’s grown up.

She doesn’t ever do it to me, weirdly. Often if we are sitting at the dining room table she will just seemingly randomly go for a leg. Hard and fast. A couple of times if someone is sitting on the floor she will go for their shoulders. If people scream, shake her off or hiss, her eyes get big, she does the flicky tail and totally signals she will do it again. I just quietly put her in a room for a bit and she chills.

I think she doesn’t do it to me, because I ignore her and put her in a different room. No play, no attention, nothing. I also always wear shorts and she seems to do it to people wearing pants?

I feel so bad for guests though. Any tips for what to do? Could she grow out of it? Help.

For what it’s worth, she has places to hide when people come over, but she is the cat that will sleep on my guests laps. Since she was 10 weeks old we would get people to give her a treat when we visit and she may have also learnt from our old cat that guests are not scary.

It’s also been potentially worse since our elderly cat passed away. Could this be that too?
