This is top-tier Philippine theater. It’s really one of the best theater experiences I’ve had. Ang galing nila. What I usually see online is that it’s a “theater masterclass!” And that’s true in every aspect! Really makes you proud of what Filipino theater artists can do.
The material was a punch in the gut. Floy Quintos was really a genius. What do you mean he wrote this almost 20 years ago??? It’s beautiful and brilliant, profound and painfully relevant. It’s necessary theater!
Ana Abad Santos and Shamaine Buencamino are absolute QUEENS. Mapapamura ka sa galing. Two of the best in Philippine theater. PERIOD!!!!! They’re also supported by a very strong ensemble. Lahat magaling!
You know the show was directed by a master. Dexter Santos tied all elements impeccably. Also, pag arena, thrust, and alley staging talaga, di mo makikita lahat based on where you are seated. But here, the stage composition and movement was just exquisite. Especially for Evening at the Opera. Para siyang 3-person waltz on stage!!!
Set and costume? Chef’s kiss. Lighting design? Sublime. Sound design/music? Evocative (and I think one of the best sounding plays in PMCS. Very clear ang sound).
It’s everything I love about Philippine theater. I hope more people could catch it. Excited to see it again this weekend. 1000/10!
