Hey all, Pom new to Perth here, been hiring a car for the last month but been looking at cars to buy. I’m planning to be here at least 12 months (not decided if I’ll move forever or go home yet) so the car only needs to last this as a minimum. For context I drove a 2016 and then a 2022 fiesta back home.
My budget is 12k but tryna stay under 10k if I can. Don’t want to drive a very old banger, looking for 100-180k kms on the odo, Bluetooth and cruise control. Auto preferred, do have manual licence, but f*ckkk the freeway traffic here would be hell in a manual!
I was trying to stick to Asian models under the impression they’re simpler if something goes wrong as been told euro cars can be a pain to get someone to do it right if it’s anything beyond usual mechanics (I’m good enough to change breaks but anything else I’d be out my depth, also have no tools here). I’m shocked by the price of used cars here compared to the U.K.! Especially Asian models, I know Toyotas are popular but even for a 2013 corolla 180k odo is $14k!
I’ve found a 2016 (MY 17) VW polo 1.2 TSI comfort line auto which I’ve fallen in love with 😫 is this gonna sting me?! It’s a DSG DQ500 dry clutch, 115k odo, full service history and had timing belt done at 110k. I’ve contacted a euro garage asking for a transmission oil change and been quoted $350. Am I being overkill doing this as a preventative or reckon it’s worth it?
Also if I do swap it in a year (once I’ve saved up for something nicer/could get finance) am I gonna get screwed on reselling/trading it in?
Thanks all, really been surprised by the car market in the Aus compared to UK so thought this was the place to ask 🙌🙌🙌
