I have a conflicting opinion it seems
Tw: Sa, CSA, abuse (fictional)
To summarize:
So the main plot of the story is of a prisoner who did bad stuff in the past, petty crimes, but also was very manipulative, just a huge asshole who did deserve to be in prison .
She was then repeatedly sexually abused by the prison warden for the 4 years in prison, after prison the warden quit his job and took her far far away into the country side where he blackmailed her and kept her captive in the house for nearly 3 more years, which he mentally broke her to accept the treatment, she was physical abused, mentally, sexually throughout those years and then he got her pregnant.
She then gave birth to a daughter, at their point this women is fully mentally broken enough to see him as her lord and savior and she is Leo so terrified of her.
She raised their daughter to be good and never questioned the husband, when the daughter pissed the husband off she would beg and take the blame and the beatings.
But here the part I feel uneasy about:
One day, the father goes into the girls room, the wife follows asking what his doing.
The father says that the girl is old enough to take certain ‘punishment’
The wife cried and begs but she just sobs an hold her daughter as she lets him be quietly cleans the girl after, this happens 4 more times with the wife growing more and more distant and quiet, not even coming to the girls room anymore.
One day, after the husband does it again something snaps in the women’s head.
She helps their daughter and bathed her, then drew a bath for the man, when the male slips in the women starts letting it out that she hates him ne what his done, she kills him by dropping something electric (I forgot what it was) into the bath,
The women locks the door and mentally falls part in a state of limbo for days because she just killed her whole world for decades, she then starts pretending that the male is away on a trip and saying he will be back.
The daughter can smell the body from the bathroom but doesn’t comment, one day after running out of food the daughter decides to go out with lots of urging to try to get her mom food and she takes trip stealing and using whatever money is left to go back home and take care of her mom. One day the daughter accepts that her mom needs wayyyy more help then she provide so she runs to towns people,
Etc, etc. lots more goes down.
But after getting some mental help, the wome isn’t in limbo but always in miserably.
She cries about not being able to save her daughter to what she went through, she feels so awful about it, that she failed her and it was all her fault and she should had killed the male the first time he even tried to touch her daughter.
The daughter gets more mental help and overtime she admits that she is angry at her mom for not saving her sooner but she’s also conflicted because of how mind broken her mom was and she knew that at the end she killed her dad to save her.
She still loves her mom but feels like she acted really late and that she will forever remember her mom standing by, but that she doesn’t fully blame her, that she understands but it still hurts.
////-/////
Me and my friends read this,
All my friends were pissed at the mom for not acting sooner and that the daughter should cut contact right away and hate her,
I had a different pint of view,
The mom was fundamentally mentally broke after nearly 2 decades of all types of abuse, I felt that they were being too harsh with her,
Imagine being so broken by a man that you forget your own name and onto whorship him and not question him and kiss his shoes.
I feel awful for the daughter of course, the girl didn’t deserve that, I fully understand why she’s upset and angry and hurt and it’s fully valid, but clearly the daughter saw her mom being broken and trying to protect her and she still loves her so much.
I can see their point, but it feels like they’re really into blaming the mom and not the man.
I can see why the mom didn’t act so soon and defied her husband at first but she did kill him at the end.
Even where I stopped reading the women may never ever recover from this and has to have a whole team taking care of her.
The girl is utterly justified in having these feelings btw, she was always a daddies girl and honestly thought that’s how dads were supposed to be at fist and that her mom was weird for not listening and blamed her for being beat half the the time, (which is utterly normal in children who are used to abuse their whole lives infront of them)
I do think she shouldn’t fully forgive the mom, or at all if she doesn’t feel like it, at the end I’m afraid that she grew up way too fast and she watches her mom fall apart still after saving her and despite being rescued, the mother apologized a million time despite her fractured mind.
The girl is pretty much left alone, a mentally unwell mother who tried her best, waited too long for help, who did ended saving them but is forever broken.
A dead father who used to be her whole world that shattered it all.
And herself, a forever broken home that never had a chance.
She still deep down also loves her dad.
Despite all her anger, she loves her mom, and doesn’t want to just cut her off, her mom went though so much before she was even born and now the girl was her new world.
I think it’s tragic.
That’s the point, a women who survived but will never be able to live.
A girl who never even had a chance of a happy family since she was born and will forever be left marked, a parent a monster, the other a forever victim of that who acted too late.
A monster who did die at the end, but in someways accomplished the damage “you will never forget me” he had always swore.
I love it, I like the book, I feel awful for the girls Involved in different ways.
I feel angry at the dead man still because it didn’t feel like enough punishment for the lives he destroyed.
Idk, I still cannot completely blame the mom and I’m unsure if that’s fucked to think, she tried her best but sometimes her best is NOT enough at the time and that if something that they will forever be stuck for.
She did get closure that her child is now save but everything else, the life she knew, she utterly didn’t remember anymore, she doesn’t even remember her original name, parents or old friends that had disowned her but never even tried to find out what happened to her after.
((Her bio mom who’s now old came by at the end of the book horrified, the women didn’t even recognize her at all))
This whole this turned into a huge argument and my friends aren’t really talking to me,
Please tell me if what I said was wrong, is my point of view wrong?
Also, please tell me what you guys think of this story, I’d like your opinions on it too!!!
Excuse my misspellings
