So one of my players has decided that they are going to roll for checks before I have a chance to respond to what they want to do/ say. This puts me in a very awkward position and I have asked them to not do that as it throws off the flow of the table because the other players get annoyed by his actions in and out of character. They get mad when I have an enemy focus them as they are playing a front line paladin and will loudly say “it’s because I pissed off the dm, it’s unfair he’s going for no one else” when I have a higher cr monster that only has melee attacks go after the one that is in its face (it’s this player that always decides getting up in a melee enemies face is the best answer).
I was also trying to describe an action that two players were making together before this same player stopped me mid description and loudly said “that’s not your job, I want them to describe it.” I obviously got visibly annoyed by this and everyone shot this player weird looks but this is something they do on a normal basis. It’s really making me not want to continue this campaign going forward if they are going to keep halting story moments to make it about them. Each player has told me they do not like what this player is doing and I’ve had multiple conversations with them about this but they are not willing to either compromise, or stop. It’s annoying and discouraging as it’s my first time being a DM and I was very excited about running a campaign. I’m not quite sure what to do about this situation. Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated.
