Gulf South Conference Football Future in Peril

When West Florida mentioned their move to FCS, I said the Gulf South would be in trouble. Turns out I was right. Here's the story:

College Realignment Report for April 15, 2026 – Sports Enthusiasts

They're now down to three football teams - Valdosta State, Delta State and West Alabama. Previous attempts to convince fellow members Auburn University-Montgomery and University of Alabama-Huntsville to launch football teams have failed, and University of Montevallo absolutely refuses to add football. My friends at my alma mater, West Alabama, are telling me the sports department and the administration are trying to decide what to do if this situation doesn't improve.

We all know there will be more teams making a possible move to FBS classification in the near future. Figuring out who will be next is half the fun.

For example, I figured correctly that Sacramento State ws going to make that move. But, I was expecting them to join tyhe Pac 12, Mountain West or fight the NCAA to go independent. I did not expect them to join the Mid-American. I'm still confused on this choice.

I also expected the big four Dakota schools to move together, but only North Dakota State stepped out.

So, who's next?

Nobody really knows, but we could guess. Here are my picks:

*Long Island University. It's time the Big Apple got its own FBS team.

*Maine

*New Hampshire

*Richmond

*Villanova

*North Dakota, South Dakota, and South Dakota State - all at the same time.

*Rhode Island

*University of the Incarnate Word

University of Phoenix - okay. not real, but just for kicks. It was either this or our favorite holy roller, Oral Robertws Universitry.

Yay or nay? Or even better, make up you own wish list. It's just a little something to keep us occupied until the season starts.

Let's have some fun, y'all!
