Music Industry Job, working under someone with SA Allegations
Hey everyone, I’m just graduating from college and have been studying to work in the music industry (22M). The job search for me has been pretty tough, and the music industry is already based on who you know. My own personal financial situation is pretty dire, and I just got this opportunity to work as an assistant for the manager of a pretty big name artist.
After doing some more research, I realized that the lead singer has been accused of sexual assault from a handful of women. As a 22M who is involved in a lot of female-centered projects and as a young professional, it’s incredibly discouraging that I might have to compromise my values in order to get ahead in an industry that is so predatory. I am worried that if I take this job it could be a future issue in an industry that is so people oriented.
I’m hoping to get some advice from you all on what I should do. I’ve tried looking for other jobs and it’s been difficult to find one in my field, and this is the first non food service job that’s actually been going somewhere.
I haven’t addressed the allegations yet with the manager, so if I decide to go forward with the job process how should I bring it up with her? Should I just do the job for a short period of time and keep looking for other opportunities?
