Was the 916/996 the precursor to the Panigale?

After owning both generations, it’s interesting how much of the original formula is still there. The bikes are completely different technologically, but the intent feels very similar-raw performance, aggressive styling, and a road bike built around racing first.

Nearly 30 years separate these bikes, yet you can still see and feel the same DNA. The 996 feels mechanical and raw, while the V4R feels like a MotoGP bike with plates.

Been playing the long game with my local Porsche dealer for a while now. Started with a 911 Targa and added a Cayman GTS convertible to build some rapport and actually enjoy the brand along the way.
Now I’m officially in the waiting phase for the real goal: a 992 GT3 manual allocation.
Plan is to trade the Targa when the time comes and finally have something I can properly track without feeling guilty about it.
Trying to stay patient, but every time I hear a GT3 it gets harder. Curious how long some of you waited for your allocation and whether dealer loyalty actually made a difference in the end.

Had Boulder Motorsports go through the bike for a full Akrapovič install, pretty involved job they had it torn down more than I expected. Added carbon wheels while it was apart and had it tuned as well.

Now sitting around ~240 hp and ~390 lbs dry. Completely different machine.
