I’m posting this because I’m really stressed and don’t know what the best move is.
I missed a midterm for one of my classes, and because of that, I’m probably going to fail the class or end up with a really bad grade. I’m trying to figure out if I should drop the class or just take the transcript hit.
The problem is that I need to maintain a 3.2 GPA for my scholarship, so I’m worried that taking the bad grade could put that at risk. But if I drop the class, my financial aid might get messed up, and I could end up having to pay more for school and even car insurance.
The reason all of this happened is that I was going through a pretty serious depressive episode. I’ve recently started seeking professional help to deal with my symptoms, but now I’m stuck trying to fix the academic/financial side of things.
Has anyone at Baruch dealt with something like this before? Should I talk to the professor first, an academic advisor, financial aid, the scholarship office, or someone else? Are there any options like an incomplete, late withdrawal, medical withdrawal, or some kind of appeal?
Any advice would really help. I’m just trying to figure out the smartest next step before I make things worse.
