Affordability vs Investment

Ive had a fairly cheap acer for while now but some of the parts are going out on me and its $70+ to get them replaced. I dont want to put that much into a something thats already on the way out anyways.

The question is currently, do I get something lighter like a Chromebook to get me through high-school? My mom has had a faithful Chromebook for about 5 years now.

But I also wouldnt mind something beefier, I enjoy a good indie game now and again. I could see myself getting a larger laptop eventually so do I just cave now or wait till a Chromebook lasts a me a few years.

I suppose maybe I just should go with something cheap and reliable and just get a PC later on...

What do you all think? Save some money for something that may last me but doesnt have all I want or make an investment into something bigger 500-800 dollar range?
