I took and passed the BCPR exam today and wanted to share my experience, since there’s pretty limited information about it out there and it would have been helpful for me if I could have heard more from others that had taken it.

First of all, yes, getting this cert will get me a salary increase. My company also paid for me to take the test so, for me, it’s worthwhile.

Exam content: -It felt very much like the NBCOT. Lots of questions asking for the best, first, or most beneficial option. I found that there were many questions that had two answers I had to really decide between and reading the questions extremely carefully made a big difference. -Questions were across the spectrum of rehab but there were a lot that involved standardized measures and assessments - I’d recommend being familiar with as many of these as you can, especially if you don’t use them often.

Preparation: -I reviewed as many of the suggested articles as I reasonably could. -I reread my conditions book from school as well as my copy of Pedretti’s. -utilized flash card sets others had made on Quizlet (just search BCPR) -Listened to every episode of the NeuroNavigators podcast (available on streaming services but also if you have MedBridge you can get CEUs for this) -watched MedBridge videos about content I’m less familiar with (for me, this was mostly related to UE orthopedic injuries. I work in IRF so this is not what I’m typically seeing)

My biggest recommendation is to focus your studies on the conditions and settings you are LEAST familiar with. Don’t bank on doing well just because you have experience if it’s only in one arena of rehab. All my experience is IRF so I definitely had to brush up on outpatient/home health as well as acute care practices.

Feel free to DM with questions.
