Got laid off after our entire R&D team was wiped out
From senior leadership to junior devs ,most of engineering was let go. Only parts of PS, DevOps, and Sales remain.
A month ago I was presenting features in front of the whole company and discussing promotion for SDE 2. April was supposed to be appraisal season, but it got delayed to June.
then cam 1:1 HR call.
Over the last few months, management had engineering teams documenting workflows, day to day work ,recording internal process videos, building AI agents of our work, and creating video test case.
Still processing everything honestly. One day you’re planning longterm growth, next day the entire org disappears.
For people who’ve gone through sudden layoffs:
How did you recover mentally and restart the job search grind again?
Edit : Since a lot of you asking about the name and shame, my company name is Quark Software , the product name is QuarkXpress , its a legacy product from 1980 , has a loyal customer base, Zax[.]ai acquired it a month ago, they have a history of erasing company and talking their customer under their own brand Trilogy.
Even though having a consistent profit from my product, they just shut off the development of every major and minor products hence their saying of no need of R&D department.
Their main focus is on stealing the customers and just getting profit each year without any development, and my company just became one of them.
