Hello everyone! I am reaching out to Reddit after being told I was crazy for everything I have been feeling for nearly a year and I apologize for the long rant here but I am reaching out for help/guidance and success stories from anyone who has had low ferritin in the past.
This last year I went to my doctor for my annual checkup and shared that I have been feeling exhausted 24/7 regardless of how much sleep I get each night and that I haven’t had my period in months. Now some back story, I had been on birth control for over 6 years and decided I was ready to be me and get off it. Through all my research, I kept learning my body just needed time to adjust to what it’s like to be “normal” again and my period would come back naturally. Months would go by, still no monthly cycle. I started documenting any symptom I had over the last 8 months leading up to my annual.
Fast forward to my doctor’s appointment. My doctor started by gaslighting me and telling me getting off birth control will not make me feel normal and there’s never a reason to get off it unless I want to have children now. She did say I should be getting my period so she was thrown off by that so ordered tests and said the only thing really to do is getting back on birth control.
Now results of my labs: Ferritin: 7, iron: 25. Everything else relatively normal and didn’t raise concern. When she reviewed my labs she said “you look good have a good day”. I pushed back saying there has to be something else to do because I feel horrible always and she said “add iron rich foods” (which is something I have been conscious of for years) and if I wanted I could add a supplement but it is not necessary. I have been taking roughly 50mg of iron daily with Vitamin C for nearly two months and nothing seems to be working too well. With my doctor not being helpful and the internet only giving so much insight, I am wondering if anyone has any advice on what steps to do next (besides get a new doctor).
TIA
