Was hacking off some damp affected plaster in an upstairs bedroom that has an old fireplace in (1930s house).

Discovered the brick wall doesn’t go all the way to the ceiling and I hacked this hole thinking I’d find brick work but instead can now see through to the loft… Suggestions to repair?
