I remember there being some controversy originally but I'm not a huge Diablo person so I don't really remember. Can anyone sum it up?

Hi everyone. New to the CRPG community and just looking for one to get me hooked. I REALLY enjoy sci-fi stuff (mass effect, the expanse, fallout, etc).
Ones I currently have on my list: Wasteland 3, Sector Unknown, and colony ship.
I can be kind of picky and if a game doesn't hook me quick I nay give up on it.
Out of the 3 I named which would you recommend? Or are there better ones than what I've named here?
