So…I’ve been suffering with IBS-D since I was a teenager (now 45yo female) and have tried multiple treatments/doctors to get some relief. At my worst I was planning all meals around work meetings to try and spare myself the embarrassment of having to run out to use the bathroom. My daily life was miserable.
My latest gastroenterologist suggested (after multiple round of xifaxin) that we try a bile-acid binding medicine called Welchol (it is an old school cholesterol medicine with this as a side benefit - there is a generic). The results were amazing and almost immediate. Almost zero diarrhea! Upon further research bile-acid malabsorption seems to be highly under diagnosed in the US…a lot more info on UK websites. Won’t work for everyone I know, but wanted to mention in case it helps anyone else. Stay strong friends! 🥰
