Pre-med major? Just a wild thought
Hi I’m a newly admitted student. I got in for biology and planning on doing pre-med. Commitment wise, I’ve been wanting to be a doctor since middle school and all my experiences in healthcare just supports this path.
The issue is I don’t enjoy biology, or any specific science courses. Maybe I haven’t found a topic that I like yet, but nothing seems to stand out enough to me. Human Biology is my best bet.
One of my life hobbies is art, like painting and sketching. This is an insane thought, but perhaps possible, what if I did art instead of biology? For one, I would be much more interested and ambitious. And two, able to focus more on the prereqs for med school rather than a load of STEM classes. And three, the gpa will more likely be higher. Correct me if I’m wrong 😆
I did a lil bit of research and turns out it’s hard to go from bio to art. Im willing to give it a shot though 😅 I’ll literally spend all of first semester putting together an amazing beans portfolio
Is this recommended? Will it be hard to get research opportunities as an art major? Since I’m taking less STEM classes, would I be less prepared for MCAT? Will art take away time for premed extracurriculars? Will med school look down on art majors? Is it harder to get classes as an art major when taking STEM (maybe I should minor in stem)?
Is this a good idea?
Thanks I’m just very clueless and think this is an idea worth exploring 😆
