18 month retrospective

I’ve had this pair of Rugged & Resilient Captains for about 18 months, and they see nearly daily wear. I’m a mechanical engineer and my days are split 50/50 between being in the office and on the hangar floor for the aircraft I support.

I bought these as a graduation present for myself, and I love them. They’re a boot for all occasions, good for the office, going for walks, or attending weddings. After a short break in period of maybe a week, they’ve shown to be quite comfy. There’s insole feels odd and wrinkly if I don’t wear them for a day or two, but after a few minutes they feel smooth and comfortable again.

There’s a bit of work to be done for them. They need to be resoled eventually, as the heels are wearing down quite quickly. The insole and interior is showing quite a bit of wear too, and a hole is developing on the counter of the right boot. I’m a little nervous to take them to a cobbler given that the rugged and resilient leather is a proprietary treatment, so hopefully the repair won’t be a hassle. If anyone knows a good cobbler near the Oklahoma City area I’d appreciate it.

Personally I’m very happy with my purchase. These boots will continue to see use for years to come.
