extreme anxiety over finding a few carpet beetles in apartment
(TLDR AT END, pls no fear mongering) hey guys, i’ve posted in this sub before. i have since moved out and got my own apartment and i moved in dec 1st. it has carpet everywhere but the bathroom and kitchen.
it has been great so far and compared to a lot of apartments in my city with bedbugs and/or roaches, im doing really good. BUT. about an hour ago i went into my bedroom to my pile of clothes on the floor (i know… i am very busy BUT it has not been there longer than some days) and there was an adult black carpet beetle chilling on top of a sweater.
IMMEDIATE PANIC. i have a massive phobia of bugs. at my old house i did actually have a mild infestation situation going on in my bedroom admittedly bc of my poor cleaning in the past, but i know this cannot be anything like that logically.
ill start by saying im pretty sure the carpet in my apartment is brand new when i moved in as my unit was renovated (all new appliances and hard wood flooring in kitchen and bathroom) and aside from those clothes, theres nothing unusual on my floor except for some boxes i’ve yet to unpack which i plan on moving to an elevated surface now.
i looked and looked and didnt find anything else in my bedroom. that was it. i looked in my living room and i did find one baby larvae on the edge of the carpet/wall right by my balcony door, and what looked like a dead carpet beetle, but one of the round ones with a pattern.
thats it. thats all ive found. i’m doing a deep clean which was needed regardless (rn just vacuuming all carpet and cleaning floors/decluttering and i will wash everything in that pile) , but please someone tell me how crazy i am for freaking out about this. i know carpet beetles are so common and not harmful at all so i really want to get to a place again where i can accept that a few are gonna be hanging out in my apartment sometimes.
TLDR: just moved into my apartment dec 1 and found an adult black carpet beetle on clothes on floor today. i searched the rest of the room and found nothing. in my living room i found a small larvae on the edge of the carpet by my balcony door, and what seemed to be a dead patterned carpet beetle. HUGE phobia of bugs and previously had a mild infestation at old house in bedroom, looking for advice bc i am freaking out!!
how do i become comfortable w the fact that theyre so common no matter what i do?
