I’m about to publish a personal announcement post, new role, life change, the kind of content that typically performs well organically.

At the end of the post I want to add something like:

The kind of content that doesn’t fit a LinkedIn post, realtime takes and unfiltered observations, that’s what X is for. Find me there @myhandle

No URL. Just a plain text @handle mention.

I know external links get penalized (40–60% reach reduction depending on the study).

But is a plain text mention of a competitor platform treated the same way by the algorithm?

Has anyone tested this or seen data on it?
