Looking to see if anyone has been through something similar.

- Marriage-based case (I-130 approved)
- I-485 interview completed
- I-485 Case was administratively closed due to removal proceedings
- Proceedings are now terminated
- Lawyer sent request to reopen about a month ago

👉 Still no update at all (case still shows closed)

1. How long did your I-485 take to show “case reopened” after request was sent?
2. After reopening, did your case get approved quickly or take more time?
3. Did anyone have to do a second interview, or was it waived?

I’m trying to see if anyone has been in a similar situation or can share their experience.

Background:

Marriage-based case (U.S. citizen petitioner)

I-130 approved

Completed I-485 interview late last year

Shortly after, USCIS administratively closed the I-485 because the applicant was in removal proceedings at the time

What changed:

Removal proceedings have now been terminated

Our attorney submitted a request to reopen the I-485 to USCIS

It’s been about a month since USCIS received the request

Current situation:

No updates online (still shows administratively closed)

No receipt or acknowledgment for the reopen request

Work permit case has been stuck in “actively reviewing” for a while

Extra context:

Biometrics were taken relatively recently (including at/around the interview)

There was a prior asylum case that led to removal proceedings, but that’s now resolved

Everything was addressed during the interview and no major issues were raised

What we’ve done:

Attorney is considering / preparing a congressional inquiry

We were told reopen requests can take time and may not generate a receipt

Questions:

1.Has anyone had their I-485 administratively closed due to removal proceedings and then reopened after termination?

2. Roughly how long did it take for your case to show “Case Was Reopened” after the request was submitted?

3. After reopening, did your case move quickly to approval or take additional time?

4. Did anyone get scheduled for a second interview, or was it approved without one?

5. Is about a month with no update normal for this stage?

I know every case is different, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s gone through something similar.
