As best as I can remember, the main premise of this anime was that the main character's job was to explore and map newly discovered parts of a really old steampunk-ish town/mines underneath it/something like that so that other people could then go in and salvage stuff from it. I also vaguely recall the ending being a conflict with some major company that wanted to just completely take over the town and have all the resources for themselves, also I'm pretty sure there was a side character who had a bunch of like automaton "children"?
