I’m 34 and have pretty severe sinus disease, it all started back in like 2017 or so, but got bad around 2019. My polyps have protruded into both nostrils. I can breathe through my left one sometimes, like the equivalent of breathing through a straw. I’m pretty sick of this. They shrank up completely and I could breathe smell and taste 3 different times. Once when I got Covid back in 2020, was clear for like 6 months, once when I started drinking alcohol again but then did a 7 day water only fast and then another time this year. But now they’re back to being more swollen.

I don’t drink, smoke or do any kind of drugs. Did in the past but it’s been 10 years now.

So I’m not sure what is the cause of these. It seems to nervous system related as well as immune. Because working out causes rebound swelling, usually things are better if I’m doing everything correctly, 5-6 balanced meals a day, stay hydrated, get 10+ hours of sleep do a saline spay. But one day out of that and it’s back to swollen.

I saw an ENT, they wanted to do an FESS, ethnoidectomy and septoplasty. I told my doc i didn’t want to have anything done to the turbinates and she agreed to that, understanding the concern of ENS.

My sinuses show completely gray on the CT except some black air pockets in the frontal sinus and left maxillary. I have a moderate deviation with a bone spur and obviously polyps all through out, into my nasal passages, so big the make my nose wider, one is almost coming out of my nose on really bad days, but it will shrink up and retract on good days.

I was going to go through with it because of how bad the CT was, but started reading about ENS and how removing the ethmoid bones isn’t great, as they play a pivotal role in our sinuses. It just doesn’t seem wise to break all that up and permanently alter the natural anatomy and function, even if mine isnt functioning right.

I don’t tolerate steroids well at all and plus I know things just tend to return to inflamed when they’re done. But would doing some form of steroids help clear some stuff out? Has anyone done the steroids and then just continued with nasal rinses and been fine? Not thrilled about the effects on natural cortisol levels, but short term I imagine would be ok, I just don’t want ti take the course then the day I stop, everything come back.

I’m not really sold on the idea of dupixent because it’s ultimately just a bandaid.

Has anyone had success with aspirin desensitization or allergy drops?

Edit: I have been looking into palate expansion for more room in the sinuses anyone seen success there?
