My husband works for a small plumbing business. He has two other coworkers and they work in teams of two so his and his partners hours are always the same. They use a time punch machine to keep track of shifts on their time cards and then the office manger (owners wife) manually subtracts break times. Their breaks have ALWAYS been 30 minutes in the 6 years my husband has worked for this business. For three weeks now (that the employees have noticed) the office manager has added an extra 15 minutes to their breaks on the time cards, which means they lose a lot more hours than what they are used to. None of the employees knew they were getting an increase in their lunch times and used to get in trouble if they even took 5 extra minutes so it took all three of them a while to figure out where the missing hours went. One employee has raised the issue to the owner last week and the owner said he had no idea this was being done and said he would talk to the office manager (wife). So my husband and his coworkers were expecting to get back the extra time taken from them with this paycheck and instead the office manager decided to add a sticky note in one coworkers check of how she did the time cards showing why extra time was taken but it still hasn’t been announced that the guys get an extra 15 minutes on their lunch, no meeting, nobody addressing this issue whatsoever. I don’t know much about legal stuff or if this is even illegal. Advice?
