Dumb Question about Owing Taxes
As the title says, this should be self explanatory but I'm fairly new to doing taxes on my own, so wanted to be sure I'm not ruling out anything else that would cause me to owe. I made ~$93,000 in 2025. $16,500 of that was untaxed bonuses. Fast forward to last month and I owed $4500 in taxes. I filed single with zero dependants and checked with our payroll department to confirm nothing odd sticks out on my withholdings and nothing raised any concerns there. I'm assuming I owed taxes due to receiving the large amount in untaxed bonuses, but was curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar before, and if simply changing future bonuses to be taxed would eliminate me from owing taxes in the future.
*Edit: The bonuses were not “untaxed”, they just did not have state and federal taxes withheld.
