I waited for 3 months to write it but finally found the time. I started preparing it when my little one was 6 months and took a year to finally pass it. What made difference is :

  1. Not rushing (I rushed into the exam when I gave it for the first time) - I did not realize that NBCOT prep exams do tell you the real story on your chances to pass the exam.
  2. Don't give up - when you fail - take a day or a week to collect yourself - watch some movies which always motivate you and "restart".
  3. Don t compare yourself with other's - My background is different and it was challenging for me to understand the OT standards set up here in the states so I always thought "Oh wow " when I learnt the things are done different (in a good way) compared to what you have learnt back home.
  4. Look for right resources : - (
  • OTHelpdesk - did make a difference - started using after first attempt.
  • TherapyEd
  • TrueLearn
  • NBCOT official Books.
  • Purple Book

There is a lot I can type here - but I am glad it was a journey and it is over. I have learnt a lot and moved on with new skills and learning attitude. If anyone is feeling stuck ( applying for NBCOT applications which was an hassle itself) and stuck between India - US transition or study schedules with kiddo, feel free to reach out, I am happy to share my study plans or just offer a bit of encouragement. We can go through this.

PS - I failed 3rd attempt by 1 score - 449 (That was a real bad luck and really demotivating)

Hi Friends,

I have been planning to set up my own therapy practice. Anyone has a list of things to start with as I am just at planning stage so need some thoughts before I start implementing. I am motivated to start with pediatrics and kids with Autism. If you have some experience please share here.
