How to change default scan settings? (C224e)

SOLVED!

I like this device (Bizhub C224e), but I don't like having to change the resolution and duplex setting every single time I go to scan something.

I've gone through the manuals, and haven't been able to figure out how to change the *default* settings. Anyone have a clue? Am I searching for the wrong keywords?

Bizhub C224e suddenly loses ability to communicate on network, any help?

[SOLVED: It was the ethernet switch. I had tried connecting the unit to multiple Ethernet ports upstairs, but it turns out the upstairs switch was the problem. Connected it directly to the main building switch in the basement and now it's happy again... well, except that I have to re-program everything. I can live with that!.]

I've got an old BizHub C224e that has occasionally been a bit tempermental, but until now I've always been able to convince it to work by turning it off and on again... It does not see much use, printing maybe a dozen pages per month, and scanning under 100/month.

Today, I brought it out of sleep mode, and the large indicator light at the top-left of the control panel unit started flashing red, and the only "error" logged that I can find is "Unable to set network time".

If I go into Menu->Device Information, I can see that it has not picked up an IP address. Correspondingly, my DHCP server has not heard from it in a long time (weeks).

I've replaced the patch cord, and moved it to a known-good port on the switch, no change.

The fax/scan button only emits some beeps, instead of entering fax/scan mode. (The copy button does the same, but it's already in copy mode.)

Several full power-cycles have not resolved the issue.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this further? Or how to solve it? Or even how to find diagnostic info in the menus I can't see any code displayed?

EDIT: using a network sniffer, I can see the C224e does emit two packets on power-up, one Appletalk, one IPv6. But no IPv4 DHCP/BOOTP, so that explains why it's not getting an IPv4 address.
