2010 Mazda CX9 Touring
On my2010 Mazda CX9 I have changed the oil regularly as recommended, replaced tires, brakes, and filters, etc. as needed. It has 167,000 miles and has been a dream when it comes to maintenance… until January of this year. First, there was a noise that made me think I needed new brakes, so I replaced them. Then the check engine light came on and more sounds. The code it was throwing was P0016. I had the following repairs done after a shop did an inspection/diagnostic:
- Valve cover replaced
- Gaskets - passenger side
- Hub - driver side
- Tire rod in VVT valves
- New carrier barons
- Multiple oil changes b/c I filled it too high
Ran for a few days and check engine light back on again. I was not having any noticeable issues with starting or driving and with no more money for repairs took my chances while I waited for pay day and an appointment with a shop. The day before my appointment my car started to shake and the check engine light started flashing. I creeped the five blocks to the shop and the next day they said it was the cylinder 1 misfiring so they repaired this on Friday, told me I need to change several fluids (power steering, transmission, transfer case fluid, differential fluid) and they heard a sound that they believe is the the drive belt (serpentine belt?). They said before they inspect to determine which pulley or change fluids, they wanted me to drive my car over the weekend and see if the check engine light comes back on and/or if the shaking comes back. The car has driven great but the second time I drove it today the check engine light returned and is throwing the same code: P0016.
I don’t want to spend anymore more net on my car if it is just going to turn out to be the timing chain which will cost more than the car is worth, but I will spend some if it means I will have a running vehicle for another year or two.
Does anyone have any recommendations or know what might be causing it to throw this code when I am not experiencing any symptoms of it being a timing chain?
