Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are combining for 47.8 PPG over the past six games. Only one other player is averaging over 10 PPG: Payton Pritchard at 14.8 PPG at 43% FG shooting.
No other player is scoring over 10 PPG per game for the Celtics. The six other players that have played significant minutes: White, Queta, Hauser, Vucevic, Garza, Scheierman, and Walsh are combined for 41.6% FG shooting. Exclude Queta that only takes shots around the rim, the remaining five are combining for a miserable 37.8% FG shooting.
The Jays, in particular Jaylen, are not playing their best ball, but I am confounded that we are once again seeing comments like "We need to split the Jays" "Major changes are needed" "Giannis!" "AD!" "Jaylen can't dribble!" "Most embarrassing loss in franchise history!" from our own fanbase. The Jays are not receiving any help from the supporting cast. White and Hauser, in particular, are miserable to watch out there. If the supporting cast can start reliably hitting threes again, the spacing opens up, and Jays can attack more freely. This is not rocket science.
If we lose G7, Brad will reload around the Jays. We have already overachieved for a team that was expected to be competing for the Play-Ins, even if the ultimate result would be disappointing.
