I am the sole author and copyright owner of a novel written in a language other than English. I am considering using an AI translation tool to create a first-pass English translation, then substantially revising the English text myself for meaning, style, voice, rhythm, word choice, and literary quality.

I understand that U.S. copyright law requires human authorship, and purely AI-generated material may not be copyrightable. What I am trying to understand is how that applies to a translation workflow where:

• the source novel is entirely mine;
• the initial English translation draft is produced by AI;
• I then revise the English text extensively;
• the final English manuscript would contain many human choices at the sentence/paragraph level.

My questions are:

1. Would the final English translation be copyrightable at least as to my human revisions, selection, arrangement, and expressive choices?
2. Would the AI-generated first-pass translation need to be disclaimed in a copyright registration?
3. Is there a meaningful legal distinction between "AI translated this text and I edited it" and "I translated it myself with AI used only for suggestions/checking"?
4. Are there any U.S. Copyright Office materials or cases specifically addressing AI-generated translations?

I know Reddit is not a substitute for a copyright lawyer. I am only looking for general legal information and sources to read as a starting point.
