Hello! I went snorkelling for the first time ever in Cairns. We went out to a reef about an hour from the harbour. I can swim but I’m not strong so I wore the life vest and tried my best. However all the good swimmers swam off with the guide and I decided to just stay next to the boat as I wasn’t confident enough to get there by myself. The other guide was acting more as a life saver as a few people were getting in distress as the waves were very choppy, so even though she began to guide me (and was very encouraging and great) she had to stop as she was helping those who wanted to get out the water.
I guess I should have know to be a stronger swimmer before doing this but at the same time I wonder if there are any tours that go from near the shore or are easier?
I feel a bit silly like I wasted my money doing it when I just hung by the boat sticking my head in and holding on haha. I did get to see the coral and fish and that made it feel more worth it.
Are there easier options? I just want less waves and to feel a bit more secure.
-Before anyone says yes I do want to be a stronger swimmer and will be doing some lessons to get better in the ocean. -
