I've been listening to Mitski for years, she's my favorite singer and I don't lie when I say I like EVERY SINGLE song on her albums: Lush, RFSNCiB, BMaMC, P2, BtC and LH. I've listened to all of them (and still do) SO MANY times I can't describe, to the point that what happens to me with The Land and Nothing's about to Happen to Me is something I don't quite understand.
Let's see, from The Land I like: Heaven, Star, Buffalo replaced, I'm your man and My love mine all mine
And from the newest album I like: In a Lake, WMP, Cats and If I leave (and maybeee dead women and I'll change for you)
And even tho the songs I like from those albums I do like them a lot (I've been listening to those 4 I like from the new album all the time) I still don't like half of this album as I do like the whole albums that came before that and the land and I THINK it's because this difference on how I think the new ones are made.
I think most of the songs of the land and Nothing's about to happen to me fail on having a well crafted melody, like I listen to them and after that I can't remember how they sound at all, SPECIALLY in the land, I think a lot of the songs from that album sound like sung/spoken poetry rather than normal songs or if like mitski came up with the lyrics, perfect, but then she had to came up quickly with some melody for those lyrics and really couldn't think much about it. (Maybe an older song that kind of falls in that category COULD be "I guess" but still can't compare one song to half an album or more even)
I don't want to sound bad or mean nor do I want people to be mean to me for saying this I'm just expressing the better I can my opinion on the newest albums and asking if maybe the change in how the songs sound is intentional? Should I keep listening to some of those songs more? Or maybe I'm just losing interest in Mitski?
Also I know I don't have to like every single song haha but I'm just saying this because I noticed a specific reason for why I'm not liking them that much, and I'm enjoying listening a lot to those 4 I said I like from the new album so it's fine regardless.
