This happened to me. I got a call from Scotiabank and they wanted to book a meeting about banking products. I said ok let’s do it through phone and then received a call at a later date. The advisor checked my accounts and wanted me to change my grandfathered chequing account to a more expensive one. Because I saw no use in changing the account I told I prefer to stay with the same old plan. That was it, the advisor did not ask any permission to do a credit check or anything. But later I noticed they did a hard check on my account without my permission. My score is good and it is not a concern, but I would like to warn anyone building a credit score of this unnecessary hit. Bad job Scotiabank.
