I’ve been in the same school with this guy for 2 years, but only about 2 months ago I started noticing we constantly make eye contact and that’s when I started liking him and also found out he’s single

Since then, it’s been confusing, because whenever we’re both at school we keep looking at each other every day, multiple times throughout the day, and it’s been like this for weeks.

For example, I’ll be sitting at my desk and turn around to talk to friends behind me, only to notice from the corner of my eye that he’s already looking and when I turn my head we make eye contact that he doesn’t break, while I’m the one who looks away first because I can’t hold it for long without feeling awkward. I pretend to keep talking like nothing happened, but I can still feel him looking, and later the same day it happens again when he walks into the classroom and we instantly lock eyes, or I randomly glance in his direction and he’s already looking (LIKE WTHH BRO)

Another time during an assignment I turned to him and asked for an answer, but he just looked at me and smiled without saying a word, holding eye contact until I couldn’t handle it and looked away to ask my friends instead; when I turned back he was still looking at me, and only after I asked again did he actually answer and said he didn’t know.

But sometimes it’s just quick glances for the whole week.

On top of that, I followed him on Instagram twice (followed, waited a month, unfollowed, then followed back) and he never followed me back, so when I try to show initiative I get nothing in return. And yeah, I’ve thought about the possibility that he only looks at me because I look at him, but then why has this been going on for two months? If he were genuinely uncomfortable and had zero interest, he’d most likely have stopped looking by now it’s hard to believe someone would keep this up for so long if it meant nothing or bothered him. That’s exactly why I’m so confused: if he’s not interested, why look at me like that, and if he is… why no actual action? I genuinely don’t understand what’s going on in his head.

Why do u guys do that if you’re not interested..?? Or is he?..

For example: I’ll be sitting at my desk, turn around to talk to my friends behind me, and from the corner of my eye I notice he’s already looking at me. I turn my head, we make an eye contact. And the thing is, he doesn’t look away (or I’m the one who looks away first :(( I’m someone who can hold eye contact, but not for long without feeling awkward). So I look away first, pretend to keep talking like nothing happened… but I can still feel that he’s looking

I couldn’t handle it and looked away, asked my friends instead. Then I turned back to him and he was still looking at me. Only after I asked again he did actually answer (and said he didn’t know)

But then the next day we barely looked at each other (maybe once or twice idk) or maybe it’s the whole week that we exchange quick glances

Also, I followed him TWICE (like followed then waited for a month then unfollowed and followed back) on Instagram and he didn’t follow me back. So when I try to show some kind of initiative, I don’t really get anything in return

That’s why I’m confused. If he wasn’t interested at all, why would he keep looking at me like that? But if he is interested… why no actual action?

Quick clarification:

I’m me,

the guy is “Thistle,”

our mutual acquaintance (girl) is “Tumbleweed.”

Everyone else are just random classmates/friends in the background.

So

About 2–3 weeks ago, right before he got sick, there was this small moment that actually matters more than I thought

We were about to leave school. Thistle went to the locker room to get his jacket, and I was standing in the hallway with two girls (my friend and Tumbleweed). While we were waiting, my friend leaned in and quietly asked Tumbleweed (literally right in front of me) if she and Thistle were dating

Tumbleweed immediately shook her head no and looked genuinely surprised like she didn’t even realize anyone could think that

Then me and my friend left a few seconds earlier, and a bit later Tumbleweed and Thistle caught up with us. They called me over, and we all walked together for like 5 minutes before splitting off to go home. At that point I still didn’t really understand what was going on between them

Then he got sick and didn’t come to school for like two weeks

During that time, I overheard Tumbleweed in class talking with her friends about Thistle, specifically about his reposts. I wasn’t part of the conversation, just caught pieces of it from across the room. They were trying to figure out who his reposts were about

The thing is, I checked his reposts too. And honestly? It’s mostly random stuff about American rappers, just typical content. Out of like 20 posts, maybe 1-2 are vaguely about relationships, and even those are super indirect. One of them literally just looked like a clip from a song. So I really don’t buy into this whole “his reposts mean something deep” theory. But they were actively discussing it while he was gone

Also, from what I overheard, Tumbleweed said that when they hang out, they don’t really talk about anything important, and she feels kind of uncomfortable around him. Like a weird feeling she even asked her mom about

So that kind of adds to the idea that maybe he likes her, but she doesn’t like him back

Then, my friend later overheard Tumbleweed’s friends talking in the hallway. From what it sounded like, something happened between Thistle and Tumbleweed like he said something to her

And one of the girls was like, “he should’ve at least been embarrassed to come up to her after that.”

But apparently… he still did.No idea what that “something” was

And there was also another quote going around, something like:

“If it doesn’t work out with Christina, I’ll go for Tumbleweed.”

Yeah

So now there’s potentially another girl in the story too

At this point it just feels like random pieces of a puzzle that don’t fully connect, and I’m not close enough to any of them to actually know the truth, anyway

He finally came back to school today. When he walked into the classroom, we made eye contact almost immediately. Happened like twice during the day

But why are you looking at me, bro?

Because if I didn’t care about someone, especially after all this time and all this confusion, I probably wouldn’t even notice them. But whatever. I’ve kind of stopped overthinking it that much

I still like him, yeah. But I’m not going to do anything about it. I’m not making the first move, I don’t want to embarrass myself. And if he actually likes Tumbleweed (or Christina, or whoever)… then there’s really no point

So yeah. That’s the update🤷‍♀️
