I purchased a guitar from my friend which was kept unstrung for a long time, about 4-5 years. I strung it with a light gauge string set .09 to .46, not having much time to play i checked it about 2 months ago, and the nut had moved from its location and all the strings were sort of clumped together, not on their assigned position at the nut, I thought it was getting used to the tension and didn't think much of it. Moved the nut to its position and put the strings in their place on the nut.

I couldn't check it again untill today when I saw the neck had broken, there is a crack behind the neck running along the width of the neck and I am broken hearted. I feel like i could have have stopped this from happening if i adjusted the truss rod at the time I put up the strings. Am i right in thinking that?

I will post pictures later to know if repairs are possible.

Honestly, i feel sad. This was an expensive purchase and I don't know how to fix it. I have even been thinking of quitting guitar all together.
