I’ve been doing this kinda work for quite a while now, but this is the first time I’ve noticed this. I had a friend bring me an ‘08 Jetta he bought for his daughter. What, at first, appeared to be bad painting habits causing the top layers to start flaking, was in fact a replaced quarter panel. The evidence is quite clear in the luggage compartment, but these score marks are new to me. That being said, I’ve yet to have a VW in my shop that required me to remove any of the seals in the jambs, so I don’t know if this is how it was made. It just looks too inconsistent to be something from the factory, but it is under all four door seals. It also has a sticker in the driver door jamb that reads……
