Wizard spell learning

I've had a huge problem with one of my favorite classes for years now. Thematically, the wizard is one of the best spellcasters, and is kinda the archetypical caster. And one of my favorite parts about them is how many spells they can have, it just makes me feel happy to have a spell for every situation. And the gameplay loop itself is great. You go around, Frieren style, gathering random scrolls, and then you need to learn them. And what is the main thing you need for that?

Money, obviously.

Who invented this?

So, in an attempt to make it a little less boring and tedious, I thought of a system where you actually need to learn to use the spell to add it to your spellbook. Now, each scroll you get comes with a small challenge attached that you need to use the spell for. Stuff like use Comprehend Languages to understand 5 different languages, or block fall damage with Fly, stuff like this. You need to use the scroll, cast the spell, do the challenge with the one cast you get, and during the next long rest, you can add it to your spellbook. If they can't do the challenge, they lose the scroll and don't gain the spell (they lose the scroll anyways but now it actually matters since they can't cast it anymore)

The idea is currently getting playtested by one of my players, they seem to like it thus far. If you have any ideas, balancing or otherwise, I'll be happy to listen to them, otherwise have a nice day!

They only think about the main ship. They're impatient. They won't slander the manga. They won't claim it's ragebait anytime something else happens. I won't let them. I'm better. I'm the original. I... AM....
