UTM to UTSG Economics Internal Transfer — Questions about GPA, POSt
Hey chat,
I’m currently a first-year student at UTM and I’m looking to transfer to the St. George campus for Economics starting this Fall (September 2026). I’m waiting for the application process to be completed and had a few specific questions for anyone who has successfully made the jump:
The GPA Cutoff: For those who transferred recently, what was your CGPA? I’ve heard a 3.0 is the "safe" zone, but is it getting more competitive for the Social Science category?
POSt Timing: Do I apply for the Economics Major POSt on ACORN during the current April window while I'm still a UTM student, or do I have to wait until my transfer to UTSG is officially finalized?
Course Equivalencies: Did you find that ECO101/102 at UTM prepared you well for the second-year core at UTSG (ECO204/206)? I’ve heard the UTSG math requirements are a lot more theoretical.
The "Vibe" Shift: For those who live in Mississauga but commute downtown, how soul-crushing is the Union station shuffle? Is the "prestige" of the St. George department worth the extra 2 hours of travel?
Would love to hear from anyone who switched campuses or even switched majors into Econ.
Any "hidden" pitfalls I should look out for in the transfer credit process?
Thanks in advance
