This might come across as a rant.
Some professors except you to put in work as if you don’t have a job or other commitments. I get it I signed up for this but why is one prof excepting me to do 4-5hr pre lecture work, show up for a 3hr lecture, and than another 2-3hr of post lecture stuff. Especially annoying when another professor who teaches the same course doesn’t require you to do any of that.
“Flexible learning while you continue to work.” I seriously feel deceived by this statement. I recommend that you either don’t or switch to part time (16hrs max) especially if you plan on taking more than 2 classes per term.
I feel that class offering weren’t flexible enough. Only options are evenings Monday to Thursday. Last term they switched the online classes to blended which made it super difficult for me. I would get off work and instead of relaxing for an hour or so I would have to drive into Vancouver and then wouldn’t get home until 10/10:30pm. Have to go into work again the next morning and do it all over again. Just a thing to consider. Might be nice to offer some on the weekends, apparently they had done that before.
Things I remember for some courses that might be helpful to incoming students:
Intro accounting - focus on the assignments, your midterms and finals will be based on that.
Stats - midterm content is easier so try to do well in it that way it can cushion you in case you struggle with the content after.
Finance - exams were multiple choice, Persis allows excel use so focus on remembering excel formulas rather than the ones listed in the formula sheet.
Intermediate accounting 1 - I liked Taj Singh, she made concepts more digestible.
Info system - I don’t even know what the point of this is other than the excel component and data normalization… Yeah. Prof is a nice guy but felt like the class was all over the place.
Management accounting - learn the comprehensive income statement.
Would love to hear others experiences in the program.
