As a junior lawyer, I’ve been following the Microsoft class action in the UK (potentially £1.7B+), and I’m curious what people here think about these large-scale lawsuits.
So I am really curious about different perspectives - especially for those of you with some experience on either side.
On one hand, holding dominant companies accountable. Especially in markets like cloud computing. This clearly matters, no question. If licensing practices distort competition, that’s a real issue.
On the other hand, I sometimes wonder how much of these massive claims actually translates into meaningful relief for the thousands of businesses involved, versus how much ends up in legal costs and fees.
For those of you with experience on either side (in-house, private practice, or affected businesses): do you think class actions are an effective tool in cases like this, or are regulatory approaches better suited?
Genuinely interested in perspectives.
