Peyote on San Pedro (SP just visible at the very bottom).

Why is the LW becoming almost like wood at the bottom? Normal or bad sign? It has been developing this for years, I'd imagine rot would kill it faster? Maybe cut it and then attempt to root the cutting? Or should it be left as is? :)

Fyi it belongs to my father and it was made about 20 years ago. Now approx. 10cm across
