Hello everyone! I’m German and work for a mid-weight production company in Northern Italy, very well-connected with the local PA. The city (and, partly) region I work in have been hit with a ton of EU money that translated in massive bonuses and freebies for whomever comes to produce here, which reduce prices that were already extreme low at the beginning (a fraction of those in Rome, for instance) but, in spite of the general crisis of the film industry, nothing “bites” so to speak. We had a number of American and Australia producers coming here to have a look, we have excellent crew here, English speaking, coming from Rome, Milan and Paris and with a proven track record, and literally the best virtual set in continental Europe. We have tons of locations already dressed, including a number of ancient places castles and Yet people come, smile, pay us compliment and then bring their project elsewhere: usually Budapest is they don’t have a lot of money or London if they are more loaded. We’re clearly doing something wrong, but we don’t know what. Maybe it’s because the city isn’t a known one? Or maybe producers prefer to play it safe in places they already know, although much more expensive? Please share your thoughts.
