Intentionally vague rundown: It's a sci fi setting set in the year 10,000, where there are no aliens and various factions are constantly at war.

In the real world, cannibalism can range from being seen as barbaric to completely normal. From everything to rituals to gain the strength of your enemies, to some sort of bizarre urge, to being needed for survival—cannibalism is found everywhere across Earth. What is the status of cannibalism in your world? Is it or accepted or is it deemed savage, and only a last resort?

In the 100% serious grimdark sci-fi world of Everbellum, cannibalism is something you see everyday on the battlefield. Not because regular soldiers are deprived of resources—but because they either choose not to bring food or aren't regular soldiers.

The Recke are the primary infantry of The Vilhem Empire—who have been at war for so long they forgot why they were fighting in the first place. They became so desensitized to everything that they no longer fear death and are calm in practically every scenario; the only problem being that they need constant stimulation to keep themselves sane.

It is common for them to bring adult magazines in trade of storage for MRE, causing them to have to resort to cannibalism to maintain nutrition—friendly (which are typically abundant due to their cloning technology and terrible strategy) or enemy bodies. They don't seem to mind, though.

The Gun-Crusaders are as lethal as they are manly, being shock-troops designed to rush in head-first towards the enemy like blazing murder machines. Unlike Holy Giants—The Gun-Crusaders are all natural, meaning they need a large calorie intake to maintain their bulging trunk-like muscles. Thus, they eat the corpses of their enemies, chopping them up and then grilling them for the post-battle Feast. Some regular Levy's and Cherubim find this disgusting, but a Gun-Crusader doesn't care what a mere peasant thinks.

Context:

August 5th—or The Afya massacre—is my worlds equivalent to 9/11, except for the fact that Tanir never lied about August 5th.

Tanir is essentially a mix between The Ottoman Empire, Saudi Arabia, and The Elder from Warhammer 40,000. They are mystical furries (their infantry wears golden bird armor) with a superiority complex in an eternal space-jihad.

One day, in Tanirs mountain-sized capital city of Afya, the sirens suddenly began to emit speech. City officials simply thought this was some sort of prank, as the voice didn't seem to say anything malicious. . . Until The Minqar (brainwashed armed city guards) stood still.

Suddenly, The Minqar began killing everybody in sight—including women and children. They locked the impenetrable city gates and the air-defense shield, making death almost certain. The only survivors were a lucky few who managed to hide long enough for The Storm Talon (the military) to show up and kill The Minqar.

In total, 43 million civillians were killed—only 1 million surviving.

This crisis was orchestrated by The Truth Bearers—an infamous militant cult capable of punching far above its weight (Blood-Angels mixed with Tzeentch cultists). Through secret knowledge, they figured out how to alter the psycho-indoctrinated brain chemistry of a Minqaron to the point of being under their control. By saying a series of trigger-words—just the right series of syllables—they were able to hijack a Minqarons brain and make them kill everything in sight.

News quickly spread, spreading fear and shock across the galaxy. . . But, humor for The Vilhem Empire.

The Vilhem Empire (or Vilhema) is essentially a mix between WW1 Germany, cartoon depictions of Nazis, and The Orks from Warhammer 40,000. They are sociopathic clones who are so desensitized to everything that they genuinely do not care about dying. They are also the oldest of my civilizations, so, it could be implied that all my other factions will meet a similar fate. . .

As you could imagine—The Infantry of Vilhema (Die Reckes) found 8/5 extremely funny. They made memes about it before the mourning ceremony for August 5th was even announced, posting it to public platforms on The Cosmoweb (my worlds equivalent to the internet).
